Training Overview

Training Overview
Mandated to be the apex training institute of Kerala, the IMG takes up its role as both trainer and upskiller of public servants. It has eventually got elevated to the status of Training Consultant for all departments in the State along with responsibility of implementing the State Training Policy.
To take a quick glance backward, the state had its training policy 2004 reviewed in 2017. Among others,  it retained its marching song, ‘Training for all.” It was from the realisation that training its staff is the necessary obligation of the government.
IMG believes that a lifelong training and development strategies for all government departments and agencies will transform employees into well-rounded, duty-bound, well-behaved, and competent, public welfare-oriented workforces.

Training mantra

>Improve the capacity of people to take on future responsibilities with the aim of matching the capabilities of individuals to the work they do and thereby improving the performance of individuals, organizations and systems.

>To make the civil service aware of the new trends in the socio-economic political environment in which it operates and at the global level.
> Innovate in line with administrative reforms and initiatives

>To impart expertise and attitude towards process re-engineering and e-governance

> Develop attitudes conducive to institutionalisation of people-centred and corruption-free participatory governance

Institute Initiatives
Over the years IMG led a shift in stance to a demand-driven training by  meta-analysis of the training needs of different departments. Consequently, there has been a quantum jump in number of training programmes from 250 per year to 1000 per year without any change in the staff pattern, thanks to the cooperation of Departments and Guest Resource persons. Through its training activities, IMG covers an average of 30,000 employees per annum which is the highest training intake by any ATI in India.
Brushing up its own act, IMG developed a training methodology following the SAT Cycle. As the first step, the training need analysis was done and report generated for various departments. This report was referred as the base document during the Modernising Government Programme initiatives by Government of Kerala. Based on these Reports which are reviewed periodically, category specific training modules were developed for all the departments under the STP umbrella. IMG would focus on training of the top officials like the Management Development Programmes, Leadership training, Strategic Planning and Monitoring, Negotiation, soft skill training, Induction Training etc and would partner with Department Training institutes to roll out the other programmes. We have accredited trainers developed by IMG through a series of Training of Trainer’s programme (ToT), these guest trainers support us in the Class room delivery of the training programmes. To increase its coverage, IMG has developed an e- Learning module for Right to Information Act ( RTI) which has been going on successfully.
